auschwitz: journey to the hell

Пару років тому мені випала нагода прочитати розповідь - щоденник однієї з тих, кому вдалося відчути жах нациського концтабору на собі. Книга Крістіни Живульської "Я пережила Освенцим" (Krystyna Zywulska "Przeżyłam Oświęcim")  справила свого часу глибоке враження на моє світосприйняття і тоді я пообіцяла сама собі знайти в житті час й можливість побувати там. 

Зовсім нещодавно мені вдалось задумку реалізувати.

На даний момент Аушвіц - музейний комплекс поблизу польського містечка Освенцим в півтора годинах їзди від Кракова.

A couple of years ago I got  a chance to read the story - diary of one  who managed to feel the horror of Nazi concentration camp herself. Book by Christina Zhyvulska "I survived Auschwitz" (Krystyna Zywulska "Przeżyłam Oświęcim") made that time a deep impression on my world perception. Then I promised myself  to find  in  life time and opportunity to  visit that place. Not so long time ago I managed to realize that.

Today Auschwitz is a museum complex near the Polish town of Oswiecim - one and half hour driving  from Krakow.

Не потрібно багато вдаватися в подробиці, Аушвіц - один з найбільших  концтаборів, який діяв 1940-1945 роках. Статистика немає точних даних мільйонів жертв нациського свавілля, але те "подих смерті" й запах гореного там відчутний дотепер...

Statistics have no precise data of how many millions victims of Nazi arbitrariness were killed there, but  "breath of death" and the smell of burned lives and bodies is still perceptible...

Сьогодні, 27го січня виповнюється 70 років з моменту звільнення табору.

Велике щастя,  що сьогодні ми маємо можливість побувати в  таких місцях на правах вільного відвідувача. Й в бажаний момент покинути їх.

Today, January 27th marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the camp.

Great happiness that today we have the opportunity to visit such places on a free visitor. And at the desired moment to leave them.
